Give me your tired

Do you remember all the noise that was made about sending Elian Gonzales back to Cuba? The media had a non-stop feeding frenzy over it and Republican politicians could not get enough of the stories. They blame Democratic law makers for Gonzales being returned to Cuba. So with both houses of the Congress and the White House in the hands of the Republicans one would think that a similar thing could not happen. If that is what you are thinking you would be wrong.    Maybe we should remove the inscription on the Statue of Liberty which reads:

Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:

I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

One must wonder if they would have been deported if they had been rich Arabs from the UAE.

I agree that it's sad, but what do we do open our borders to everyone? The law would have allowed them to stay if they had stepped on dry land, they did not. Instead of all the focus on the illegal immigrants from Cuba we should be talking about putting an end to communism in Cuba. The only reason life is so bad for these people is because they live under a totalitarian form of government that doesn't allow for freedom. Communism is falling all over the world, why not in the Americas?

Is that what Republicans were saying about Elian Gonzales?

Maybe some of those Repugs did care about Elian Gonzales, but most of them it was just political posturing. They did the same thing with Terri Schiavo. There is only one word that I can think of that describes them, HYPOCRITES! Here they could've done something, but because they wouldn't get much PR from it they did nothing.

I think that there is plenty of hypocrisy to go around; there are Corporatists in both parties. Corporatists want to see more immigration because it will increase the labor poor and lower wages which will translate into higher profits for the corporations.
